A couple of years ago, I took part in a challenge organised by a well‑known archive to create a 60‑second story using nothing but archival material. I knew instantly the story I wanted to tell, and 72 hours later the result was this: the story of “ping‑pong diplomacy” and the tours undertaken by the Chinese and U.S. table‑tennis teams in the early 1970s.
I’m now continuing to develop, research, and expand the project. It explores how these tours built bridges between people, cultures, and political differences and is a story as relevant now in an increasingly divided world as it was back then.
